Today is International Nurses Day 2016! Every year on the 12th May, Florence Nightingale’s Birthday, people from all around the world celebrate the wonders of nurses!
Did you know that there are 690,000 nurses and midwives working in the UK today? The recent heated debates and controversy surrounding the NHS means it’s important, now more than ever, to support our dedicated nurses. What with the terribly long hours, disproportionate pay (only £21,695 – £28,180 per annum in the UK) and stressful working conditions they face on a daily basis, nurses deserve our support.
Dating back to 1974, International Nurses Day is a day to acknowledge and thank nurses all around the world for their hard work and dedication; it’s a perfect opportunity to celebrate the difference nursing staff make to the lives of millions of people every day. This year the International Council of Nurses’ (ICN) theme is ‘Nurses: A force for change – Improving health systems’ resilience’.
Today is a chance to celebrate the remarkable difference nursing staff make around the world and it’s a perfect time for patients to thank them for their dedication and care.
We’d just like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ for all that you do. Thank you for being dedicated and caring. Thank you for giving families support and hope. Thank you for being there through the really tough times. Thank you for looking after our friends and family with an unfaltering passion.
