If you’re having a Long Distance Relationship (or LDR) for short, the chances are your life is full of highs and lows. Seeing each other is never so good after a long break, but saying goodbye again is oh so very bad. So how do you make it work? We’ve put together some tips on how to be together when the one you love is far away.
- Communication, Communication, Communication
Keeping on touch with each other is key to maintaining a healthy LDR, and thankfully technology is on your side. Emails, webcams and phone calls will keep you together when you’re apart. And why not throw in some old fashioned love letters just for luck? You’ll even be able to keep them as a memento. How good is that?
- Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff
One of the biggest problems of a LDR is wondering what your partner is up to when you’re apart. So trust plays a big part in making it work. So always be honest about how you feel, and try and replace those insecure thoughts with positive ones.
- Pursue Common Interests
If you enjoy the same things as your partner, then remember you don’t have to feel alone! Read the same book at the same time, watch the same film, or do the same sport. You can then share your experiences, which helps bring you closer together.
- Set Boundaries
Be sure about what you’re prepared to wait for. If your partner shows no signs of wanting to settle with you full time eventually, then it might be time to call it a day.
